I did it!!  I started artichoke seeds in January in my basement, and now I have baby artichokes popping up on my plants!  I’m so excited about this!  At least something has been relishing this unseasonably hot weather we’ve been having lately.  I am so stoked to know that I am going to eat fresh artichokes that I grew myself–and that I started them from little seeds.  Is there anything more satisfying than gardening?  Most days I don’t think there is.

And also…we got a pretty kick ass CSA share today–a huge bundle of mixed lettuces, radishes, sugar snap peas, zucchini, and chives.  I’m going to make a huge salad.  Next week we are supposed to get cherries (one of the highlights of the entire summer).


I made a curry in the solar oven today.  I started it early in the morning and by the time I got home, the potatoes and yellow split peas were soft and edible.  I could smell it wafting down from the deck–I wonder if people walking on the sidewalk could smell it at all?  I absolutely love, love, love my solar oven–I haven’t heated up my house at all by cooking lately, yet I’ve eaten cookies, roasted potatoes, and now this curry dish.  This oven is one of the best investments I’ve made.  And I’ve still got a lot of summer left to use it!
